Last week after the conclusion of Gold Rush 002 we reported that IC3 suspended Shawna Martinez-Washington immediately, fining her $10,000, suspending her for one show in addition to having her forfeit pay from the last card in addition to forfeiting pay from Gold Rush 003. In an update to this story Shawna Martinez-Washington is now suspended indefinitely, effective immediately. We contacted a representative of GGW and much to our surprise Isaac Cornelius III personally responded to our request for comment and he had the following to say: "When you sign a contract or get hired to do a job there are certain rules an expectations you're required to meet." Mr. Cornelius said. "If you violate company policy there are consequences and you have to deal with those consequences. Due to the damage she was responsible for causing, direct or otherwise she was ordered to pay a fine to cover the costs in addition to serving a lenient suspension. However since Mrs.Washington continues to ignore our requests for payment she can continue to sit at home without pay until she decides to come to her senses." Mr. Cornelius also added that once the fine plus accrued interest was paid the two could meet in regards to her reinstatement.
It is not known at this time if Mrs.Washington will challenge the fine and suspension in court but an attorney for the family gave us the following statement: "Considering that portions of said riot were in fact captured on film we believe sufficient evidence exists that proves Mrs. Washington is in no way responsible for the damage incurred after Washington v Stevenson. It is of our expert opinion that the root of the riots were a result of insufficient security and the fact that several civil codes were violated by Mr. Cornelius and GGW in regards to the first show."
Furthermore it is believed that if a formal appeal is filed to GGW that Mr. Cornelius will in fact be the one hearing the case and that he has no intentions to recuse himself from the proceedings. Should the suspension be upheld it is believed that the case would move onto civil court.
