Whoa
With our backs to the wall, the darkness will fall
We never quite thought we could lose it all
Ready, aim, fire, ready, aim, fire
An empire's fall in just one day
You close your eyes and the glory fades
Ready, aim, fire, ready, aim, fire away (fire!)
Ready, aim, fire, ready, aim, fire away
Off in the distance, there is resistance
Bubbling up and festering
Hey Mr Motion, make me a potion
Shake it all up with your mystery
How come I've never seen your face 'round here?
I know every single face 'round here
A man on a mission, changing the vision
I was never welcome here
We don't have a choice to stay
We'd rather die than do it your way
With our backs to the wall, the darkness will fall
We never quite thought we could lose it all
Ready, aim, fire, ready, aim, fire
An empire's fall in just one day
You close your eyes and the glory fades
Ready, aim, fire, ready, aim, fire away (fire!)
Ready, aim, fire, ready, aim, fire away

Things open up to the shot of a long slightly lit hallway where you can see a figure standing in it, cellphone in hand and the background noise of music and other voices surrounding her. She lets out a sigh and crosses her arm over her chest, impatiently tapping her foot as she waits for the person she’s trying to call to pick up the phone. After what seems like an eternity, the line clicks over and a voice answers on the other end of the line.
”Hello?”
”Hey, what’s up? I didn’t interrupt did I?”
There was the slight rustling of a paper bag in the background, before the voice spoke again.
”Nah, I’m eating lunch and doing some paperwork here. What’s up with you kid?”
Autumn sniffs, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear, making a mental note to put her hair back into a ponytail before she went to work out here otherwise it was just going to get stuck to the sides of her face while she was doing her thing.
”Not much, I’m at a gym somewhere in the city here, looking to work out a little bit before things happen you know? Better than sitting around in some hotel room being lazy like some people are.”
”Ouch, already hammering the nails into the coffin before the match starts huh?”
”A little bit, doesn’t hurt to get in a few shots here and there. I like to get under people’s skin before things start because it hammers the doubt into their skull and they’re not too sure what to do with me after that.”
”Whatever works to help you get that edge I always say.”
Autumn shifted on her feet, glancing back and forth around her, to make sure that no one was coming.
”He may have said a thing or two about you in his shoot. Nothing to get upset about though.”
Papers were rustled around, as he let out a low chuckle.
”Did he now? Must have been something awfully interesting if he was talking about me. Bringing up my name gives people a reason to start flappin’ their gums and making up excuses for things. I’m not even gonna worry ‘bout it, and neither should you. This is about you and him, and has nothing to do with me. You do what you do best, what you were taught, and you should be fine. I’ve got faith in you, you dig? It’s a tough business out there, and some people are just in the business of being complete assholes.
You do your thing, you’ll be fine. If you lose tonight against him and this chick, don’t let it wreck you too much. Take everything as a learning experience and keep moving forward. I didn’t teach you to be a weakling.”
Autumn smirked, shaking her head a little bit.
”Nah, I came out of your school with a head full of knowledge and a shit ton of bumps and bruises to last me a lifetime. You taught me to be better than the negativity and continue to blaze a trail for myself in this business. Not gonna let someone like Alex Healy ruin my mood and my momentum into this just because of a few things.”
”That’s the attitude I want to hear. When are you coming back down here to visit?”
”Maybe in the next couple of weeks or something. They got me busy here, being new and all, but if I can slip out, I’ll fly down and visit. Promise.”
”Alright, I’ll hold you to that. I’m gonna jet out of this call so I can get this paperwork done and finish my lunch. I’ll be watching you, go out there and blaze that trail.”
”I will, thanks. Bye.”
”Bye.”
Autumn stared at the phone for a second before jogging lightly back to the locker room to throw it back into her bag. With a quick look around after she did so, she laughed slightly, one of the lights over her head flickering and going out, throwing the row of lockers she was standing in into darkness.
This was perfect for now.
”My teacher did a lot for this business than you will ever know. He paved the way for smaller people like me to blaze our own trails and forge our own paths in this sea of bigger opponents, and for that I’m grateful. I would advise you not to speak ill of him again, lest you want to get into a bag of trouble you can’t get out of. I don’t talk all of this truth, all of this stuff for no reason mind you, I talk all of this because it’s true and it’s who I am. I’m going to walk all over everyone, because I can, and I’ve done it before.
Again with the no looking things up. The lack of knowledge you have about my past is sad Alex. Really, a man as…cultured…as you are…should know better than to march onto the field of war without first taking a look into your opponent.
I don’t just talk this big talk, I back it up with what happens in that ring. I give my opponents a fair warning, time to prepare for what’s coming and if they can’t handle me when I get in there then that’s their problem not mine. I don’t fight just the women, I fight the men too. It was something I was willing to do when I stepped into this business for the first time years ago. I knew I was going to have to fight both sexes, to get anywhere.
And I have. I wouldn’t trade any of those experiences for the world.”
She chuckles.
”I do my own thing, blaze my own path, and do things for me. If people don’t like that then tough, that’s their problem. I’m in this business to do good, to win, and to win gold, not to play hopscotch with the likes of you.
You don’t have to like what I do, like my attitude, or like how I conduct myself in the ring. What you do have to like is the fact of what I’m going to do to you once I get there. I am out to prove you wrong and be the one, that put the 1 in 2 and 1, you understand me? There’s more to me than meets the eye, and this ball of darkness and pain is coming for you.”
