1.) No Real Wrestlers, created only. Don't be a carbon copy ripoff either. If your picbase is Jeff Hardy don't try to be Jeff Hardy almost verbatim. There are real wrestler efeds out there if you wish to play as Jeff Hardy. I'm not saying this to be mean but just as a heads up that this place may not be for you.
2.) This should not even have to be said but it is going to be said, NO OOC DRAMA. There is ONE WARNING here, you will be deleted if you violate it a second time.
3.) One face per character. Everyone knows that the pic base is a representation of how the character looks but lets be real here. If there were 2 Brock Lesnars, 5 John Cenas, 10 Randy Ortons and 8 Hulk Hogans we'd have a real "Attack of the Clones" situation. First come first served unless you approach me with the idea of reserving a pic base ahead of time. I may make an exception for characters who are twins but this will be done on a case by case basis only.
4.) Don't bring your politics into my fed. At the end of the day this is a game after all and as such you will get what you put into it. Don't try to manipulate your way to the top, don't cut deals behind people's backs; let your word be your bond if you plan to work something with another handler. If I catch you trying to play politics, and I will, there will be consequences including but not limited to: loss of push, loss of championship if you're the champion, suspension, or in severe cases a ban.
5.) Don't advertise here, just don't do it. Unless it has been ran by me and cleared first it'll result in an automatic ban. If you want to advertise your fed without an agreement, take it off my boards plain and simple. Any potential affiliates (should we elect to go that route) are of course exempt from this restriction.
6.) A reasonable degree of realism is expected. Don't murder, don't snort a line of cocaine on GGW On-Camera or TV airtime, don't commit acts that would otherwise make you a sex offender, don't use a catapult in a low income (or any) neighborhood. This isn't a cartoon/fantasy land where laws and logic don't apply and while a reasonable suspension of disbelief is expected don't stretch it. Use some common sense.
7.) There will be a 48 hour deadline in place before the final deadline, meaning that you must have at least one roleplay up to avoid losing by forfeit by this time. I understand that everyone has busy lives, school work that needs to be done, work that needs to be done and bills to pay but if you are considering joining Golden Gate Wrestling you should be able to put out one roleplay in a two week period. This 48 hour deadline can be waived if your opponent(s) agree to do so. This is also to prevent sandbagging, buzzer-beating, holding onto your RPs to flood on the final day, etc.
In the event that both parties miss the 48 hour deadline you can still roleplay for the match under a 1 RP limit. I reserve the right to void this provision if I see it being abused so please don't ruin a good thing.
8.) Don't steal another person's work, GGW or elsewhere. If i catch you ripping off another person's work you will be banned.
9.) No pornographic images. This goes without saying but in my time in this game I've seen one or two people who ACTUALLY thought it was a good idea to do this. Not only is against the proboards TOS but it's against my rules as well.
10.) Don't No-Show. Sometimes real life can be a pain in the ass and if you let me know what's going on I'm not going to punish you but No-Showing without cause or reason is a quick way to find your way out the door. Two consecutive no-shows or three within a three month period (without cause) will result in you being written out any way I see fit. You'll also automatically lose your match as a result of a no-show. If you are released as a result of this rule you will be welcome back later should you decide to give us another shot but understand that we may be hesitant to put you in any championship situations for a while until you have proven to be reliable.'
10.5.) If you no show your debut match you will be written out/terminated by any means I see fit during the show; effective immediately. Don't waste my time and yours by filling out stats only to no show your debut. You are welcome to apply again at a later date but the championship probation period stated above will apply until you are proven to be reliable. I reserve the right to waive this rule on a case by case basis, so make it a good one if you no show your debut.
11.) Know and understand the difference between IN CHARACTER and OUT OF CHARACTER. I see the term Cyberbully tossed around an awful lot lately in this game and most of the time it's because the HEEL is playing a HEEL when they interact with others. The HEEL is the villain, or "bad guy" in professional wrestling, your Darth Vaders, Biff Tannens, Tommy DeVitos, Ivan Dragos, Michael Myers; they're not good people. They're not going to sit down and have a beer with the FACE, "the good guy", and act like their best friend unless they have some ulterior motive. Everything that's in character stays in character, don't whine to me about the Heel out of character, try to beat them.
12.) Don't name drop. I know every character for the most part has a history and many people may handle the same character for many years but just because you were a Champion in ECA or the League of Extraordinary Wrestling doesn't mean you're suddenly going to cut to the front of the line in Golden Gate Wrestling. While I have no problems with two people coming in with history with one another playing it up; your prior championship/accomplishments outside GGW hold no weight whatsoever in GGW. Live for what you can accomplish now in GGW, not what you achieved 5 years ago elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Golden Gate Wrestling?
A: That's a good question. Golden Gate Wrestling is a professional wrestling promotion based out of the Bay Area of California.
Q: What is the size of your promotion? Local? Regional? National? Global?
A: Think kind of like the original ECW. California has two of the biggest media markets in the United States (San Fransisco and Los Angeles) both of which are in the Top 10 Nationally. With a large reach we manage to find ourselves in the homes of many viewers within the West Coast. California also happens to have the largest economy in the United States and 8th overall in the world.
Q: How often are shows ran?
A: We run on a biweekly schedule on a date to be determined.
Q: What can you expect out of a Golden Gate Wrestling show?
A: Short Summary results with full segments.
Q: Why short summary results for matches?
A: A lot of people tend to skim the match results anyway or at least that tends to be the prevailing trend I've noticed. By adopting this method we hope to get results up quick and on-time without keeping people waiting while at the same time keeping motivation and energy levels high from the top down. We hope to master this method to have everyone tell their stories in the most efficient way possible.
Q: So does this mean that we're just going to get a listed winner for each match?
A: Not quite. Try to think of live reports from house shows and wrestling events from foreign companies such as New Japan. More often than not they give us a roadmap of how the match started and how it came to the finish. Expect a good paragraph or two for a good overview of how the match went.
Q: So what about match roleplays? What are you looking for? Is there a set RP limit?
A: Definitely match relevance, that'll always be a big thing I'll be looking for as well as playing to your alignment (face or heel). It also helps to know the facts on your opponent lest ye be misinformed and fumble in your delivery. Sell the storylines/angles you're in. What I DON'T want to see however is an RP devoting 6000 words to eating a burger with the wife and dedicating two sentences to the match or a piece chalkful of burial (see Promo vs Burial). We have a character development board for noncompetitive roleplays if you wish to do any non-match oriented writing and we encourage activity on that board to introduce and develop characters away from our biweekly shows or when you're not booked. Keep things relevant and you should be fine.
As for the match RPs themselves I will not be imposing a limit. Members should feel free to work at whatever pace they feel comfortable with. If you and your opponent want a back and forth war feel free to have at it, conversely if you and your opponent only want to do one a piece because you're both having a busy week at work that's also good. Quality always will win in the end.
Q: Do you "Storyline" or "Angle" anything?
A: On rare occasions, yes but generally no. By and large the better work wins in regards to roleplays. While we aim for a more relaxed environment in the end of the day you're still trying to win your matches and advance as a character. In the rare event that a match is in fact angled there will be a plan in place for both parties involved. In these rare occasions we will not do this to screw anyone over or commit a burial and we will definitely look to reach out to all parties involved to clear the air. If you're good to us we'll be good to you and reward your loyalty.
Members are also free to angle a match if all parties agree and inform management. As long as it's not something utterly ridiculous I'll generally give you the green light but I will reserve the right to veto if I feel it is necessary. It is because of this I would say the roleplay to angle ratio would be 90/10; almost always roleplay based results.
Q: How often are PPVs/Supercards held?
A: A very good question. It's something I've been debating about or whether I want to run them at all period. IF they are ran it certainly won't be an every month type of deal and I may just run each show as its own standalone event instead of running a PPV/Supercard format. Watch this space.
Q: Do I need to be approved by staff after posting my stats?
A: Generally, no. As long as you follow the template and adhear to all of the rules you're free to start roleplaying right away for your debut match or if not booked, a developmental piece. If you violate one or more rules (IE not using our template, not posting the required moves, using a picbase that is already taken, using a gimmick that would otherwise be cartoony , etc) you will be contacted by management about the problem. In most cases any minor mistakes on the template won't hinder your debut whatsoever.
2.) This should not even have to be said but it is going to be said, NO OOC DRAMA. There is ONE WARNING here, you will be deleted if you violate it a second time.
